Buying computers/electronic items
There are quite a few student offers in Germany (certain models from Lenovo, Asus, Schenker, Toshiba or HP) that can get you a decent laptop for everyday use. To make use of these offers a copy of the student registration certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung) is required. The German keyboard layout can be a bit daunting at first because most people are used to the US one in India. However, it does not take much time to get used to it as the differences are not that many. Moreover, the German keyboard is the one you will encounter most frequently in libraries, offices, etc. So it makes sense to get used to it. In fact, it is essential for writing in German so that is another advantage.
If you are bringing your laptop from India or buying one there, it is useful to get an international warranty.
